M.A.C Cosmetics SS13 Beauty Trends

Last week M.A.C Cosmetics invited us to a preview of the Spring/Summer ’13 beauty trends as seen on the catwalk of London Fashion Week, New York, Paris and Milan.

Introduced by Terry Barber, Director of Makeup Artistry, the round-up featured four new looks with a softer geometric style influenced by the kaleidoscopic nature of the sixties with an updated minimal modern twist:

Ruffian SS13

‘Sig-Nature’ sees a luminous healthy woman with glowing skin, where skin-care and make-up become one and the same. Starting with a luxe and hydrated base while highlighting the cheekbones, nose and eyebrow bridges to raise the facial features. The eyes are left rosy with no mascara and the lips are balmed whereas the eyebrows are emphasised with symmetrical contours and a bit of backcombing to frame the face. Creating a pre-raphaelite meet’s 90’s grunge hybrid.

The ‘Sig-Nature’ essentials include Mineralize Moitsture SPF 15 Foundation, Dirty Blonde Fluidline Brow Gelcreme, Golden Elixir Strobe Cream, Posh Tone Mineralize Rich Lipstick and the light reflective Face and Body Lotion.

Meadham Kirchhoff SS13

‘Nu-Ance’ gets a fresh look with a palette cleanse as clean pastel colours such as lilac, turquoise, lemon, mint and aqua take over with flashes of silver and cold metallics. A pop of colour on the lower lid of the eye gives a minimalist feel or presented with a transparent colour wash around the eye with a soft creamy tint eyeshadow partners a sheer iridescent lip for a subtle glow. This lucid stance takes the runway’s interest in vivid digital prints.

The ‘Nu-Ance’ essentials from M.A.C include Now Mustard! Eye Shadow, Powder Blush in Poised, Lip Conditioner and Silver Pigment, available from Spring/Summer ’13.

Paul Smith SS13

‘Sci-Phedelic’ gives colour blocking a new shape inspired by optical prints and 60’s psychedelia. Lips overpower skin with a multi-dimensional flouro effect creating a sharp focus whereas the eyes disregard the conventionally pretty feline shape and explore new territory with thick sharp one colour orbital structures. Minimalism is pushed in new directions as artists challenge themselves to distill the message of this movement in shapes and shades that say something new.

Get the M.A.C essentials including Pro Chromagraphic Pencil in Process Magenta, Pro Acrylic Paint in Yellow, Cyan and Process Magenta, Electric Red Pigment, Auto-De-Bleu Technakohl Liner and Embrace Me Lip Pencil.

House of Holland SS13

‘Puri-Tan’ gives bronzer a sophisticated overhaul, illuminating the face with contours rather than applied all over. Go all out for a ‘desert chic’ feel with intense shadows on the eyelids or subdued on the cheekbones reaching up to the forehead for a vintage americana wholesome look. Finish with moisturiser applied over the top to shape facial features for a dewy polish. There is nothing masculine, heard or linear about this look.

‘Within this palette, there is a sophisticated return to the smokey eye that is moe effortless and transparent. Fashion want’s a darker eye that is not cheap and tacky.’ - Terry Barber.

‘Puri-Tan’ essentials include Must Have Brown Eyeshadow, Powder Blush in Taupe Shape, Top Soil Eye Shadow, Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Luxe Naturale – available in Spring/Summer ’13 and Pigment in Golden Lemon.
