Wouter Baartmans is a Dutch menswear designer based in London. After graduating from AMFI Amsterdam Fashion Institute in 2007, he continued to work in Amsterdam on the Spring/Summer 2008 collection at Viktor & Rolf. Wouter recently graduated from a Fashion design MA at London College of Fashion.
The ‘Moonshining Werewolves’ collection reflects the great depression in the 1920s and the emergence of new cinema. The collection looks at an area of menswear history that was very defined, this definition and presence of clothing sets a tone of menacing masculinity. As well as collaborating with prestigious companies such as Grenson and FurLab, Wouter uses luxurious fabrics that interact with the wearer, mohair, suede, wool, silk and fur. Inspired by dominant tailoring and intelligent detailing the collection subscribes to Wouter’s ethos of a modern traditionalist.
Wouter is currently half of a design duo, Baartmans and Siegel, a contemporary menswear label, specializing in luxury accessories and dynamic design based in London.
Awards include 2009 Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds-Amsterdam/ Kruitlaan Fonds – a Royal Arts and Media project/scheme that aims to support Dutch new talent in further education.
