Atelier Swarovski | Diana Vreeland Legacy Collection
Atelier Swarovski launches the Diana Vreeland Legacy collection in September 2012, celebrating her 50-year career as an ‘arbiter of style’.
Diana Vreeland (1903-1989) held reign as the ‘Empress of Fashion’ for fifty years before her death, having worked as Fashion Editor for Harper’s Bazaar and Editor-in-Chief at American Vogue. She then launched a 16-year career at the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute where she set new standards for exhibiting fashion worldwide.
‘To say Diana Vreeland has dealt only in fashion trivializes what she has done. She has commented on the times in a wisely and wittymanner. She has lived a life.’ – Jackie Onassis
To celebrate the launch of the collection Swarovski held an evening in honour of Diana Vreeland. Journalist Justine Picardie conducted an exclusive interview with Alexander Vreeland to discuss his late Grandmother’s influence on the fashion industry.
Alexander revealed Vreeland’s constant strive for beauty through fashion editorials on the pages of Harper’s Bazaar and American Vogue, her eye for the new talent of the time such as Jimmy Choo, Richard Avedon and Lauren Bacall whilst impeccably blurring the line between art and fashion and maintaining her trend-setter status.
The Atelier Swarovski Diana Vreeland collection features bold resin cuffs and rings, a crystal gilet and decadent necklaces that capture Vreeland’s inimitable style and her unique take on beauty, imagination and luxury. Reflecting Vreeland’s philosophy that “the only real elegance is in the mind. If you’ve got that, the rest really comes with it.”
