Dior SS15 Catwalk Show
Simons looked to the past and future to bring us the present for SS15. Traditions of haute couture were transported in the realm of pret-a-porter; taking inspiration from 18th century panniers, t-shirt bodices and justaucorps, combining traditional attire with uniforms of pilots, astronauts and school girls.
Bodices become skirts, jackets become blouses, micro-jacquards take the form of a digital grid and footwear is hand-knitted.
“It was about the idea of addressing the different visions that people today consider as modern aesthetics, ” explains Raf Simons. “It seemed more contemporary to me to look towards a distant past rather than to modernize the spirit of recent decades. The challenge lay in lending a contemporary attitude to something quite historical, bringing simplicity and ease to something that might otherwise risk seeming theatrical.”
