Edward Enninful to British Vogue
Chairman Jonathan Newhouse announced the appointment with a letter to the British Vogue team.
‘Edward is one of the most talented and accomplished fashion editors in the world. Since 2011 he has been Creative and Fashion Director of W, where he has worked with the finest photographers to produce ground-breaking, highly admired editorial work. He has more than 25 years of experience as a fashion director, starting in 1991 when he became the Fashion Director of i-D at age 19, a post he fulfilled for more than two decades. In the years between 1998 and 2011 he contributed extensively to Italian Vogue and American Vogue. His work for Italian Vogue under the direction of its late editor, Franca Sozzani, encompassed features such as Makeover Madness, The Black Issue and The Curvy Issue, which have attained landmark status in recent cultural history.
Born in Ghana, Edward was brought to Great Britain as a child and was raised in the Ladbroke Grove area of London where he became a British citizen. He attended art school at Goldsmiths, University of London. In addition to his magazine editorial work, he is an adept practitioner of video and a widely followed presence on social media. He is considered to be an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music which shape the cultural zeitgeist. He was awarded the Isabella Blow Award for fashion creator of the year by the British Fashion Council in 2014, and last year was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by Her Majesty the Queen.
