Opening Ceremony SS15
Opening Ceremony presented its Spring/Summer 2015 womenswear collection at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House on Sunday with a catwalk show and special theatrical performance.
‘100% Lost Cotton‘, a one act stage play written by Spike Jonze and Jonah Hill brought the collection to life with Karlie Kloss making her acting debut alongside a cast that included Dree Hemingway and Elle Fanning.
The collection itself was inspired by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon’s care-free summer of 1991, spent as rebellious teenagers with friends between outdoor swimming pools, indoor malls and parks.
“We spent the summer of 1991 in this world, circling cul-de-sacs and breaking into pools. It was a quiet kind of rebellion, before subversion had consequences and the Internet would diffuse a thousand wayward voices into complex subcultures.” – Carol Lim and Humberto Leon
Patterns and shapes adorning body-con dresses and structured coats are modelled after ASCII web coding and keyboard characters. Woven and embossed jacquards mimic the surface of a swimming pool whilst laminated fabrics reference water.
