Richard James x SpongeBob Squarepants
Savile Row tailor Richard James launches an exclusive collaboration with SpongeBob Squarepants on May 12th. The British Fashion Council’s “Bespoke Designer of The Year” utilises the cartoon character’s intrepid use of colour into the collection of ties, shirts and pocket squares that feature SpongeBob and his pal Patrick as an abstract camouflage.
“We have always been great fans of SpongeBob Square Pants at Richard James. The humour of the character transcends generations and the use of colour is what first grabbed our attention when we were approached by Nickelodeon to work with them on this collaboration. Richard James has always pushed the boundaries when it comes to using colour in menswear design, and SpongeBob’s vibrant personality suits us well at Richard James.” – Richard James
Each item of the collection is individually numbered, whilst the bold signature yellow suit is made-t0-order.
Spongebob has taken the fashion world by storm over the past couple of years having guest-edited i-D magazine, starring in his own photo shoot, Karl Lagerfeld has designed a special figurine, Phen Hillenburg has created a range of helmets whilst designer and avid-fan Marc Jacobs sports a tattoo of the cheery-chap. We’ve even had the pleasure of spending time with SpongeBob as he par-took in work experience at F.TAPE HQ during the summer of 2009!
