Selfridges | Washed-Up Exhibition

Selfridges launches a unique exhibition on 11th May that sees its Wonder Room transformed into Washed Up – a ‘retail activist’ initiative to highlight the impact of over-fishing on the environment.

Curated by Judith Clark and in support of Project Ocean, the exhibition showcases 26 ocean-inspired couture garments and accessories by designers including Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, Gareth Pugh, Iris Van Herpen and Philip Treacy.

Key pieces include Philip Treacy’s lobster hat made famous by Lady Gaga, Hussein Chalayan’s bubble dress for Swarovski and Alexander McQueen’s iconic Plato Atlantis dresses.

Throughout the exhibition Clark tells the narrative of the ocean species’ fragile¬†existence, cleverly staging the garments and accessories within a desolate surrounding of dead coral and driftwood.
