Steven Klein’s CR Girls 2018 Calendar

What with VMAN producing a sexy mens calendar, why should the boys have all the fun? Carine Roitfeld definitely agrees with the support of photographer Steven Klein as they rope TechnoGym in to create a supers Calendar for 2018. These girls mean business! Visually they all pack punches, dressed in get-ups that would see them sooner break a leg than a sweat as they cavort and ooze sex appeal all over the gym equipment. Klein channels a little Helmut Newton to give these girls the power and stature of a healthy, toned (and tanned) goddess.

So what the point to all of this besides creating a set of beautiful women galavanting amongst the bar-bells and futuristic cardio equipment under the editorial eyes of Carine’s CR FASHION BOOK? For us we see an obvious two birds with one stone situation. This calendar is to promote diversity which is a hot topic in the fashion industry right now (and with good reason), but the second piece comes in perfect timing as we soon gear up for the catwalk season. Not one of these girls is emaciated. Quite the opposite. We see a collection of very fit, and in some cases very strong examples of body image. This is a big F-U to the ball and chain gripping many casting directors that still follow the outdated and frankly unhealthy thin-wins illusion.

I guess it helps to have supers such as Gigi Hadid, Joan Smalls and Co lending their untouchable sassiness the project. It also helps that it’s for a charity! Buying this calendar will send 100% of the proceeds to benefit the Special Olympics which transforms lives through the joy of Sport. So not only will you own 12 months of gymspiration to hang up on your wall, you’ll also be helping out a really cool cause.

POP QUIZ?: How many years have TechnoGym been the official supplier for the Olympic Games (see the connection now?). ANSWER: 6 Years people. That’s a pretty significant contract to have, so it’s great to see TechnoGym (who most people only associate with when using various equipment in the gym) branch out to work in the fashion circle and with such creative heavy-weights.

“We are proud of the partnership with the CR Girls Calendar. At Technogym, we have been promoting the wellness lifestyle for over 20 years and Carine’s project conveys our message with a very glamorous tone. We believe that a fashionable dress fits better on a healthy body,” said Nerio Alessandri, Founder and CEO of TECHNOGYM.

“I am in awe of any person who devotes their mind and body to athletics, but especially those with disabilities. This is the definition of courage. I am pleased the proceeds of this calendar support the Special Olympics—an organization I greatly respect—and to promote the visibility of its efforts,” said Roitfeld.

TECHNOGYM has been official supplier for the last six Olympic Games; we believe in the social mission of sport, in its strength and ability to transform people’s life through the joy of practicing and exercising. Therefore, we are happy to partner with Special Olympics and sharing its mission and program to help people in need” said Alessandri.

“Throughout my career, I have championed diversity of both race and body type. This casting includes both iconic supermodels and fresh faces in a modern representation of beauty and body. It’s about the multiplicity of woman in the year 2018,” said Roitfeld.
